MARITIME ENGINEERING GROUPThe 'Diode' wave dissipation block This Paper describes the development of a novel precast concrete revetment block, the 'diode', used to dissipate wave energy as part of a major sea wall reconstruction project on the North Wirral coast. Commencing with identification of the initial wave exposure problems and their mechanisms, the alternative solutions and their relative costs are discussed. Existing precast blocks are reviewed and the evolution of a new block design described. Detailed design work including physical model tests and structural analysis is presented as are the prototype problems of mould manufacture, precasting on site and placing procedures. Subsequent performance under severe wave attack and future developments arising from the experience are also included.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
