CAC (Connection Admission Control) is one of the most important functions in ATM networks to provide variousrequested QoSfrom end users. CAC mechanisms for sop guarantee which assure the requested QoS statistically are classlfed to a non-parametric or a parametric approach. However both approaches have some disadvantages. The non-parametric approach needs the dedicated hardware to monitor actual traflc streams. Generally, the parametric approach must invoke the complicaFed calCulations to analyze mathematical models. This paper propsses a simplified CAC mechanism referred to as UL-CAC (Ultra Light weight CAC) for soft guqrpntee. Although this mechanism is included in a category of the parametric approach, it does not need complicated calculation. This paper presents its mechanism which is applied to VBR traffic streams characterized by the dual leaky bucket mechanism and is applied to CBR traflc streams. It also verifies suitability by sorpe simulations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
