A critical review of the premises of dualistic thinking–which still forms the base of most existing psychosomatic models–will lead to the insight that a new beginning has to be sought. Psychosomatic theory ought to start from the mind-body-unit, and not to try to construct it. The concept of body-image presents a possibility to develop models which could answer this requirement.
