Primary esophageal melanoma is an extremely rare malignancy with an estimated prevalence of 0.0036 cases per million per year. The prognosis of the disease is unfavorable, in 30-40% of patients metastases are detected at the time of diagnosis, generally accepted approaches to treatment are currently insufficiently developed.
