The Stockholm University and Karolinska hospital cylindrical SPECT camera, which has been presented earlier in this forum, is currently being assembled. The construction has now reached a stage where preliminary evaluations can be made. The basic component of the system is a 18 cm high cylindrical NaI(T1) scintillator with an inner d i m of 30 cm. Early measurements of position and energy resolutions with individual local acquistion groups have proved encouraging. With densely packed 60 m m hexagonal PM-tubes with curved front end windows, energy resolutions of 10% or less have been recorded for 140 keV photons. Further optimizations are expected to lead to minor additional improvements.
