The effects of the strength and content of elastomer on the toughness of PPS/SEBS blends were observed experimentally. Evaluation of mechanical properties and morphological analysis were performed for polymer blends containing SEBS of 5 different strengths at 3 levels of content. We observed that an increase in the amount of SEBS at a constant tensile strength caused an increase in the density of voids, while a reduction of the strength of the SEBS at a fixed SEBS content caused an increase in the void zone size. Both processes increased the toughness of PPS/ SEBS blends efficiently because the presence of voids caused a relaxation of stress concentration due to the release of strain constraint.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
