Comment désormais habiter le monde ? figure comme une des questions fondamentales que notre époque pose aux sciences sociales et aussi à l'institution scolaire. Penser l'habitabilité à la lumière des changements et des crises (Fourny, Lajarge et Eleb, 2019, p. 130), tel est le défi. Par conséquent, il paraît prioritaire de développer chez les élèves un regard critique sur les manières de vivre et leur durabilité. Habiter, un champ largement investi par l'ensemble des sciences sociales, a été récemment intégré au curriculum en géographie scolaire en France (Biaggi, 2015) et en Suisse romande 1 . Habiter le monde c'est aussi habiter des paysages. Comme miroir des modifications profondes introduites par l'urbanisation, de la réduction de la biodiversité, du changement climatique, le paysage pourrait ainsi être un nouvel outil dans le cadre de l'enseignement en géographie, voire une nouvelle méthode, d'intelligibilité du monde. La Convention européenne du paysage (2000) invite d'ailleurs au développement d'une éducation au paysage. À cet égard, le paysage comme objet d'enseignement pourrait être reconsidéré par l'habiter (Sgard et Partoune, 2019, p. 18).Autrement dit, c'est l'occasion de réhabiliter l'étude du paysage en géographie scolaire, dans une perspective démocratique et participative. Le paysage, en suggérant intrinsèquement la prise en compte des habitants et du vivant, donne dès lors accès à une lecture géographique, mais également politique et citoyenne du cadre de vie (Sgard et Partoune, 2019). Les menaces sur le paysage vécu suscitent parfois des contestations et des refus, qui témoignent du désir d'une meilleure reconnaissance de la participation des citoyens (Luginbühl, 2012, p. 370-371).Cette visée citoyenne de l'enseignement au et par le paysage a déjà été valorisée dans le cadre de l'éducation au développement durable (Vergnolle Mainar, 2009), ou à L'enquête paysagère, une méthode d'intelligibilité politique du monde ?
