In summary, ASIS effectively and selectively attenuates tissue factor-induced thrombin generation. Because ASIS was well tolerated, this study provides seminal data to further characterize its anticoagulant and putative anti-inflammatory effects in critically ill patients.
Our data suggest that the diurnal changes in the plasma levels of activators and inhibitors of coagulation and fibrinolysis lead to corresponding changes in the activity state of these systems, leading to morning hypercoagulability and hypofibrinolysis.
