In this paper, we describe, first, a model that organizes the disease category knowledge as multiple taxonomies and then a diagnostic system based upon such a model. The organization of category knowledge around a single taxonomy is inadequate for natural systems. We propose a model that uses multiple taxonomies for the diagnosis problems in natural systems. A disease catego ry can belong to more than one category and has a situational and a relational aspects. While diagnosing a disease, all the taxonomies are integrated using the knowledge associated with the categories. These ideas have been implemented for the infectious diseases domain in a system, INTERX.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
