A two year experiment was conducted during kharif and rabi season of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 at experimental site near Faculty of Forestry in main campus of Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. Sole cropping and gamhar based agrisilviculture systems with four different intercrops (arhar, cowpea, greengram and mustard) were under investigation. To study the overall scenario of soil properties under agrisilviculture system, soil samples were analysed at different profile depths (0-15 and 15-30 cm) to measure the changes in soil properties under the influence of gamhar (Gmelina arborea) tree and intercrops grown in between. Soil pH, electrical conductivity (dsm-1), organic carbon (%), available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (kg ha-1) were found higher at the soil depth 0-15 cm as compared to 15-30 cm due to addition of organic residue on the surface soil. Soil OC, available N, P and K in 0-15 cm as well as in 15-30 cm profile was found to be statistically significant. It showed an increase from initial value in all the treatments in 2016-17 and 2017-18. The increase was more in gamhar based agrisilviculture system than in sole tree and sole crops in both the years.

The field experiment was conducted at Agronomy Field of Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali during the period from December 2019 to May 2020 to evaluate the effect  of phosphorus (P0 = 0 kg P ha-1, P1 = 30 kg P ha-1, P2 = 60 kg P ha-1, P3 = 90 kg P ha-1) and boron (B0 = 0 kg B ha-1, B1 = 4 kg B ha-1, B2 = 6 kg B ha-1) and their combinations on nodulation and yield attributes of soybean. Number of nodules plant-1, number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod, 1000-seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index increased significantly up to 60 kg P ha-1. On the other hand, number of nodules plant-1, number pods plants-1, number of seeds pod-1, 1000-seed weight, seed yield, stover yield, biological yield and harvest index of soybean were enhanced significantly up to 4 kg B ha-1. The combination of 60 kg P ha-1 and 4 kg B ha-1 depicted the highest number of nodules (177.8), plant height (75.60 cm), number of pods plant-1 (92.72), number of seeds pod-1 (2.92), weight of 1000-seed (155.3 g) seed yield (1.91 t ha-1), stover yield (2.98 t ha-1), biological yield (4.89 t ha-1) and harvest index (39.06%). Thus, the combined application of 60 kg P ha-1 and 4 kg B ha-1 could be the optimum for getting maximum yield of soybean. Bangladesh Agron. J. 2020, 23(2): 127-133

Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) production is affected by several factors, out of which weed is one of the most important factors responsible for causing tremendous loss in yield. An experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 at Research Farm of Birsa Agricultural University, Kanke, Ranchi, Jharkhand to study the effect of pre and post-emergence herbicide on yield, economics, weed count, weed dry matter and weed control efficiency in linseed. The treatments comprised of weed management practices viz., T1-Weedy Check, T2-Hand weeding twice at 30 and 60 DAS, T3-Metribuzin 250 g/ha + Oxyflourfen 125g/ha (Pre.), T4-Pendimethalin 1 kg/ha (Pre.) fb. metsulfuron methyl 4 g/ha (Post.), T5-Imazethapyr 75 g/ha (Post.), T6-Oxyflourfen125 g/ha (Pre.), T7-Metsulfuron methyl 4 g/ha (Post.), T8-Clodinafop 60 g/ha (Post.), T9-Clodinafop 60 g/ha + metsulfuron methyl 4 g/ha (Post.) and T10-Oxadiargyl 80 g/ha (Pre.), and were replicated thrice. The research outcomes revealed that Hand Weeding twice at 30 and 60 DAS resulted in maximum seed yield (14.26, 15.66 and 14.96 q/ha), net return (Rs. 41635, 45907 and 43771/ha), in 2018-19, 2019-20 and pooled data respectively while among weed parameters hand weeding recorded minimum total weed count at 30 DAS (1.19 and 1.22 /m2) and 60 DAS (3.04 and 3.19 /m2), minimum total weed dry matter at 30 DAS (1.17 and 1.18 g/m2) and at 60 DAS (3.43 and 3.57 g/m2) and maximum weed control efficiency at 30 DAS (97.08 and 96.97%) and at 60 DAS (80.66 and 79.24%) in 2018-19 and 2019-20 respectively.
