Rasayana, or rejuvenation therapy, is one of the eight main branches of Ayurveda and is recommended to increase Ojas (life force) after detoxification programmes. The Rasayana drugs and formulations provides longevity, memory, intelligence, freedom from diseases, youthful age, excellence of luster, complexion and voice, optimum strength of physique and sense organs, respectability and brilliance. It is good for all age groups for the elderly, pregnant women, children. Rasayana therapy prevents the effects of early ageing on both, and increases the body’s resistance to disease. Tonic food and herbs that nurture Ojas tend to be heavy and nourishing, and can be hard to digest, so that the state of Agni (digestive fire) needs to be considered first. Rasayana therapy is particulary good for Vata types during the autumn, to give them weight and strength and help them endure the long, cold winter. It is contraindicated in any condition associated with Ama (toxins), for obese people, and during colds and flu, congestive disorders, fevers, infectious diseases and allergies. For 5,000 years or so, the wisdom of Ayurveda has provided guidelines for slowing down the ageing process (Jara) by increasing Ojas. Modern scientific evaluation of Rasayana plants and other treatments used in Ayurveda have borne out the fact that rejuvenative tonics have the ability to protect the body against the ravages of age and the damaging effects of the environment in which we live, by enhancing the body’s ability to fight off disease-carrying organisms through non-specifically activating the immune system. Use of rejuvenative foods, oils, herbs and behavioral rejuvenation is very important in making a life longer, disease free and happy.
The MarmaVijnana (Science of vital points) has been dealt in Shareera Sthana of Ayurvedic texts like Sushruta Samhita (Text book), Astanga Samgraha (Text book) and Astanga Hridaya (Text book). The references related to Marma are also available in Charaka Samhita. Almost all the texts of Ayurveda have mentioned the total number of Marma as 107. Out of these Apastambha Marma is considered under the Urogata Marma (vital points of the chest region). The concept of Marma is important in the clinical and surgical point of view. In this article an attempt is made to study the Apastambha Marma and its Viddha Lakshana (Traumatic effect) by considering the related literature.
Auto rickshaw drivers are more prone to musculoskeletal injuries related to their occupation when a vehicle is in motion the body is subjected to different forces: accelerations and decelerations lateral swaying from side to side, and whole-body up and down vibrations. In Auto rickshaws driver's wrist joint are under optimum usage as there will be frequent flexion and extension of wrist joint especially of left hand because he must change the gears frequently. Therefore, due to over use of joints there may be a stress which may lead to structural changes in those joints. By considering the above information current study was taken into consideration to evaluate the influence of occupation on the structural changes of both the wrist joints in auto rickshaw drivers. 70 samples of auto drivers were randomly taken in study that were working in the same posture for 8-10 hours and having minimum of 15 years of work experience. Study has revealed that there is positive correlation between total period of work in years and duration of complaint also there is positive correlation between daily working hours and duration of complaint, Stress revealed that it effects various functional and structural changes in auto rickshaw drivers. The presence of pain and swelling helps to conclude the stress on soft tissue like muscle and tendon i.e. involvement of musculoskeletal system. They can affect nearly all tissues, including the nerves and tendon sheaths, and most frequently involve the arms, wrist and back in auto rickshaw drivers.
