Savremeni pristup u ranoj intervenciji podrazumeva koordinisan i interaktivan rad svih članova transdisciplinarnog tima kroz aktivno učešće stručnjaka i roditelja/staratelja. Samim tim ovaj model omogućava pružanje usluga koje su usmerene na dete i porodicu. Cilj ovog rada je da ukažemo na greške članova tima koje dovode do toga da usluge nisu koordinisane i integrisane, pa je otežano odgovoriti na potrebe dece sa razvojnim smetnjama i njihovih porodica što direktno utiče na kvalitet ranog razvoja deteta. Uzorkom je obuhvaćeno 100 ispitanika iz Srbije, 97% majki dece sa smetnjama u razvoju i 3% staratelja/usvojitelja. Podaci su prikupljeni tehnikom online anketiranja. Statističkom obradom podataka dobijeni rezultati su ukazali da od prve sumnje da nešto nije u redu sa detetom do javljanja stručnom licu najveći broj ispitanika 44% je čekao od mesec dana do 6 meseci, a čak 13% da je na javljanje čekalo i duže od 6 meseci. Za uspostavljanje dijagnoze bilo je neophodno čekati od mesec dana do 4,5 godine. Kao glavne razloge za zakasnelo javljanje defektologu, navode propuste stručnjaka, neznanje u kojim sve slučajevima defektolog može da pomogne kao i savete stručnjaka (dečiji psiholog, pedagog u vrtiću) „da sačekaju još neko vreme“. Kada je reč o greškama roditelja jedan od najznačajnijih podataka je da je čak 69% dece u prvih godinu dana imalo kontakt sa bilo kojim ekranom. Skoro 30% dece uzrasta od 1,5 godine do 3 godine konzumira isključivo mekanu pasiranu hranu. Rezultati istraživanja govore u prilog tome da je za najbolji tretman u programima specijalne edukacije i rehabilitacije, za decu uzrasta do 6 godina izuzetno važno umrežiti ustanove koje pružaju usluge iz oblasti zdravstva, vaspitanja, obrazovanja i socijalne zaštite. Obezbediti transdisciplanarni pristup, pružiti usluge u skaladu sa individualnim potrebama deteta, edukovati stručni kadar i vršiti evaluaciju usluga.
