REPORTING AN EXPERIENCE: RECOVERING AND RECORDING RESIDUES OF TEACHING LABORATORIES OF CHEMICAL INSTITUTE OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE DOSUL. An experience aiming to promote a residue interchange and recovery between the teaching laboratories of the Chemistry Institute of this University is described. At the present, several residues interchange have already appeared as advantageous. To make the work easier, a software has been developed in order to keep a record of all the residues generated by the teaching laboratories. Standard labels have been developed for the residues in order to organize them. The software and the label design are described.Keywords: environmental chemistry; residues; recycling. Quim. INTRODUÇÃODurante os últimos anos cresceu a nível mundial a conscientização por parte das indústrias químicas, das instituições acadê-micas e dos órgãos governamentais a respeito da necessidade de um tratamento eficaz ou de uma adequada disposição final de qualquer tipo de resíduo 1 . Sempre que possível, existe um empenho na recuperação dos resíduos gerados por vários tipos de processos, objetivando torna-los úteis novamente . Por outro lado, as indústrias estão gradualmente trocando processos tradicionais por tecnologias limpas [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36] . Atitudes responsáveis deste tipo são essenciais para que os danos ambientais e os riscos à saúde da humanidade sejam minimizados.Os resíduos recuperados podem não somente ser sucessivamente reutilizados no mesmo processo em que foram gerados, como também podem se transformar em matéria prima para outros processos.As Universidades, como instituições responsáveis pela formação de seus estudantes e, consequentemente, pelo seu comportamento como cidadãos do mundo, devem também estar conscientes e preocupadas com este problema. As atividades de laboratório realizadas, seja em aulas experimentais ou atividades de pesquisa, geram resíduos que podem oferecer riscos ao meio ambiente ou à saúde.O Instituto de Química da UFRGS, preocupado com esta problemática, vem desde 1994 desenvolvendo atividades de coleta seletiva e tratamento de rejeitos dos laboratórios de pesquisa e graduação 37 . No âmbito dos laboratórios de ensino de graduação, algumas disciplinas já realizaram diversas atividades visando tanto recuperação de resíduos como a síntese de reagentes para utilização em outros laboratórios de ensino ou em laboratórios de pesquisa, etc. No entanto, estas ações tinham um caráter restrito e isolado, na medida em que eram realizadas dentro de um setor ou Departamento. Em 1998, quando do lançamento do Edital PADCT III -Apoio a Cursos de Graduação em Química e Engenharia Química, o Instituto de Química apresentava a maturidade necessária para o desenvolvimento de um programa institucional, que refletisse o espírito dos seus sucessivos dirigentes, bem como de seus professores e funcionários.
