Low carbon sustainability has been addressed in China’s sustainable urbanism strategies as a response the impact of climate change. This study empirically examines the relationship between household factors and carbon emissions in the context of community regeneration through the use of correlational and regression analysis. The participants were drawn from the Dadong community in Guangzhou, China, who has been participating in low-carbon community regeneration. In total, 102 valid questionnaires were obtained from homeowners and the data were analyzed with SPSS and STATA software with an OLS estimate method, checking for BLUE to identify and decide upon the degree of correlation among the variables. The results reveal that family carbon emissions were primarily impacted by house area and income. This study found that larger houses tended to have higher carbon emissions, emphasizing the importance of using low-carbon materials and facilities in community regeneration. Additionally, households with higher incomes tended to have more household appliances, which can contribute to higher carbon emissions and potentially lead to conflicts between different actors involved in low-carbon community regeneration. To reduce household carbon emissions, low-carbon community regeneration develops through interactions and transformations among different actors. However, there has been a lack of research examining the mechanisms underlying the process of low-carbon community regeneration involving the various stakeholders. Using the reference of the actor–network theory (ANT), this research innovatively reveals the mechanisms related to key actors (community government) and multivocal obligatory passage points (OPP) with a synchronous process (problematization, interessement, enrollment, mobilization) through interactions and transformations made by different actors. Finally, the study highlights the need for further research on the low-carbon community or urban regeneration with innovative technological and self-regulation strategies.
This study examines the sustainable transport policy framework in the case of railway development in Klang Valley, Malaysia. It is guided by the main principle that sustainable transport policy is a result of the integration of broad policy instruments that range from infrastructure provision and management, technological improvements, regulation, information, awareness, education, and pricing and taxation. Although this study is mainly qualitative, performance data available at the ASEAN Statistics Division, World Bank Open Data and Global Competitiveness Reports. This is followed by in-person interviews with experts who have vast knowledge, experience, and direct participation in sustainable railway development in Malaysia, especially those related to the Klang Valley development. The main findings have indicated that the current framework in Malaysia meets the criteria of sustainable development policy framework, which are essentially constituted within environmental protection. It also constitutes the pursuance of long-term growth in terms of economic and societal needs. Nonetheless, the rail-based transit system in Malaysia is highly driven by the Government and there is no clear sign indicating that the public is shifting from the road and private transport to rail-based services.
This paper examines the influences of Malaysia's Federation Land Development Authority (FELDA) scheme in fostering inclusive rural development. Based on the model of holistic inclusive development, the paper investigates the performance of FELDA from four perspectives: social development, industrialisation, modernisation and basic needs. The main findings of the study indicate that, to a large extent, the scheme has successfully stimulated both the social and economic development of the community. Nonetheless, establishing a strong trust, social cohesion and rapport between the public authorities and community remain the main challenges in determining the success of this state-led agenda. Moreover, keeping traditional values in the modern system will be the key principle for the sustainability of the programme if plans are made to adopt the scheme in other regions.
Design-based learning (DBL) is a learning strategy that requires students to use their theoretical knowledge to develop an artifact or system to tackle a real-life problem. DBL has long been utilized in design-related curricula in higher education such as engineering, computer science, and architecture. However, little is known about how DBL in non-design-based courses enhances students’ learning experience, especially in recent years when the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled the worldwide education systems to adapt to online learning. Hence, this study aims to investigate the experience of science undergraduate students after one semester of participating in online DBL. The participants include 25 second-year science undergraduate students enrolling in the Managing New Technologies course. Using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, the findings of this study indicated that online DBL contributes to easy access to learning, enhances creativity, and allows students to think outside the box. Nevertheless, students highlighted online learning as an obstacle to their DBL experience. They claimed that online platforms as a means of communication are not practical due to insufficient interaction time and misunderstanding of information. In addition, some students stated that the online environment poses difficulties for collaborative learning.
The purpose of this approach is to establish the twin impacts of organizational innovation (OI) with organizational learning (OL) in the relation between knowledge management (KM) and organizational performance (OP). 168 companies of manufacturing Food Company were chosen from Malaysia, Taiwan, China and path analysis is used to analyse the underlying hypotheses. The research framework under study contain four latent variables (OP; OL; KM; OI) and three observed indicators (firm type; firm size; firm age). Structural equation modelling include mediation and moderation analysis were used in this study. The obtained results support the literature regarding the relationship among these four constructs and prove that the combination of OI and OL is mediator in the linkage between KM and firm performance. Moreover, firm age, size and type are acting as moderators among the research latent variables. The introduced model can be consider as a basic framework for technology management modelling studies. Limitation and implications for future studies are discussed.
