The gold(I) bis-NHC (NHC = imidazol-2-ylidene) parent compound was synthesised in high yield by a three step reaction starting from imidazole. The compound is highly water soluble and stable in concentrated hydrochloric acid.

Sandwich gewünscht? Reduktion von 1,1′‐Bis(o‐carboran) und anschließende Reaktion mit einer Quelle für {Ru(p‐Cymol)}2+‐Fragmente bei Raumtemperatur lieferten eine unsymmetrisch verbrückte Spezies als Folge einer C‐C‐Bindungsspaltung in p‐Cymol. Nach DFT‐Rechnungen ist das Aren zwischen zwei Ru‐Atome als Teil eines Metallacarborans eingeschlossen (siehe Bild; C grau, B gelb, Ru rot), und die Reduktion erfolgt durch den zweiten Carboranrest.

The cover picture shows the structure of a fluorescent polymer consisting of a ligand‐functionalised polylactide coordinated to Re(CO)3(phen). This polymer can passively target cancer tissue and transport the fluorescent dye to the cancer cell membranes, where it can be detected by fluorescence microscopy, which enables early detection of cancer. The resulting fluorescence in the membranes of A2780 cells can be seen in the background. Details are discussed in the article by P. C. Kunz et al. on p. 5063 ff.
