El objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar las variables asociadas con la comunicación sobre sexualidad en varones que tienen hijos con discapacidad. Se trabajó con una muestra de 32 hombres a quienes se les aplicó un instrumento de auto informe para conocer sus características sociodemográficas (sexo, edad, estado civil, ocupación, religión, ingreso mensual y número de hijos) y las de sus hijos (sexo, edad, escolaridad, tipo de discapacidad, origen de la discapacidad y edad a la que se presentó), sus conocimientos y creencias sobre sexualidad (positivas y negativas), supervisión y apoyo parental, roles de género, expectativas (positivas y negativas), formas de comunicación y comunicación sobre sexualidad. Los resultados indican que la comunicación sobre sexualidad se correlaciona de forma positiva con las creencias positivas y de forma negativa, con las expectativas negativas y los roles de género. Se discuten la implicaciones de los resultados de esta investigación en el diseño de programas de intervención dirigos específicamente a padres varones cuyos hijos tienen discapacidad.
Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar las variables que promueven y limitan la comunicación sobre sexualidad en padres de jóvenes sordos, así como el papel que desempeña la modalidad comunicativa y el género de quienes conforman la díada padre-hijo. Se trabajó con una muestra no probabílistica de 79 padres a quienes se les aplicó un instrumento de autoinforme para conocer sus características sociodemográficas y las de sus hijos, sus creencias sobre sexualidad, roles de género, expectativas, autoeficacia, comunicación sobre sexualidad, modalidad comunicativa y percepción del dominio de la Lengua de Señas Mexicana (LSM). Los resultados más importantes de esta investigación sugieren que el género juega un papel importante tanto en las expectativas como en la comunicación sobre sexualidad. El hecho de que los padres tengan el mismo género que sus hijos, favorece que no tengan expectativas negativas hacia la comunicación sobre sexualidad y también que aborden temas que suelen resultar incómodos como la masturbación y el cómo usar condón. Se discuten las implicaciones de los resultados de esta investigación en el diseño de programas de intervención dirigidos a esta población.
