In the United Kingdom over the past few years there has been a dramatic growth of national and regional repositories to collect and disseminate resources related to teaching and learning. Most notable of these are the Joint Information Systems Committee's Online Repository for [Learning and Teaching] Materials as well as the Higher Education Academy's subject specific resource databases. Repositories in general can hold a range of materials not only related to teaching and learning, but more recently the term 'institutional repository' is being used to describe a repository that has been established to support open access to a university's research output. This paper reports on a survey conducted to gather the views of academics, support staff and managers on their past experiences and future expectations of the use of repositories for teaching and learning. The survey explored the rights and rewards associated with the deposit of materials into such repositories. The findings suggest what could be considered to be an 'ideal' repository from the contributors' perspective and also outlines many of the concerns expressed by respondents in the survey.
A study of 35 nonprofessional helpers, identified as community "guides," focused on the contribution each made to helping marginalized individuals and families become a part of their communities. The lessons learned through these lay helpers can inform a postmodern social work practice that promotes the use of indigenous practice principles appropriate for work with and in culturally distinct communities. The practice wisdom of these guides demonstrates a need for professionals to reposition themselves in the associational life of a community, and to make their practice less visible. It is shown that an effective community-building practice that respects community solutions to individual and community problems requires permeable boundaries on the part of intervening professionals.
This present study aims to determine the relationship between coaching commitment and physical development of student-athletes from various public schools in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. Respondents on the study are student-athletes from Senior High School Public Schools from Grade 11 and 12. Descriptive statistics such as Mean and Standard Deviation were used to describe the level of coaching commitment and physical development according to categories, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the relationship between coaching commitment and physical development. The findings revealed that the level of coaching commitment is very high and the level of physical development of the respondents is highly developed. From the correlational analysis, result findings revealed that competition strategies, goal setting, physical training and condition, teamwork, technical skills, and time management were observed to have no significant relationship to caring, character, competence, confidence, and connection of the respondents. On one hand, mental preparation was observed to have a significant negative relationship on caring. Additionally, Personal Rapport/ Negative Personal Rapport were observed to have a significant positive relationship on Caring, Character and Connection.
atex allergies are widespread and significant. The cause of latex allergy is a protein allergen from the natural latex from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis. This allergen is found in persons with significant cumulative latex exposure. Hospital health care workers and individuals undergoing repeated surgeries (especially early in life) are at risk for developing latex allergy (Reddy, 1998). Thus, the hospital setting is an environment in which life threatening allergic reaction is likely to occur. At a suburban community hospital in the Northeast, the employee health nurse identified an increasing number of employees experiencing reactions to latex gloves. With the knowledge of the growing number of latex allergies among hospital workers and patients, and the serious consequences of latex allergies, the employee health nurse recognized the need to institute a hospital wide change. Working with the medical director of occupational medicine, the nurse initiated the change process. This article describes the process used to implement a latex safe environment. Through the use of a case study, the discussion focuses on how the task force was assembled and how a strategic plan was established
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
