IN BRIEF
Poor adherence jeopardizes treatment efficacy and patient outcomes while negatively affecting use of health care provider resources. This article describes an education support program that was designed to improve medication adherence among patients using pramlintide, an injectable postprandial therapy for patients with diabetes using mealtime insulin. The program reinforced treatment expectations and integrated anticipatory problem-solving strategies based on product profile from treatment initiation to maintenance. Adherence to pramlintide therapy was improved with use of this interactive, proactive, and need-based program.
