Corrosion control is an important aspect of safe drinking water supplies. The effects of corrosion which may not be evident without monitoring are an important issue concerning both public health and economical aspects. Chemical stability parameters of water quality in water treatment plants in Baghdad city can improve drinking water quality. The treated water quality from water treatment plants in Baghdad city was investigated along the water flow path in this study. The water quality parameters related to chemical stability included temperature, alkalinity as mg/L Ca-CO3, calcium mg/L as Ca, pH and total dissolved solids (TDS) mg/L for different samples from WTPs within Baghdad city were investigated. The two water quality indices, Langelier saturation index (LSI) and the Ryznar stability index (RSI), were calculated in order to evaluate the chemical stability of the drinking water samples. The results of LSI and RSI of the effluents from Baghdad's WTPs during 2000-2013 classified that corrosive water is produced and this indicates that the water is not safe for domestic use and will need the further treatment. The present study demonstrated the application of water stability indices in estimating/understanding the treated water chemical stability and appeared to be promising in the field of treated water quality management.
As human societies grow, the problem of waste management becomes one of the pressing issues that need to be addressed. Recycling and reuse of waste are effective waste management measures that prevent pollution and conserve natural resources. In this study, the possibility of using glass waste as an alternative was used as a partial weight substitute for fine aggregates with replacement ratios of 10, 20, 30, and 40% by the weight, and formed into test models (15 cm * 15 cm ) cube and (15 cm * 30 cm) cylinder, then matured and tested their strength compression and tensile strength at the age of 7 and 28 days and compared with a reference or conventional concrete with a mixing ratio (1: 1.5: 3) as well as testing its workability on fresh concrete. The results showed the possibility of using crushed glass wastes in concrete as a good alternative to fine aggregates, up to 30%. The compressive strength and tensile strength results at this ratio were 92.6% and 80.86% at the age of 28 days, respectively.
Groundwater is an essential source because of its high quality and continuous availability characterize this water resource. Therefore, the study of groundwater has required more attention. The present study aims to assess and manage groundwater quality's suitability for various purposes through the Geographical Information System GIS and the Water Quality Index WQI. The study area is located in the city of Baghdad in central Iraq, with an approximate area of 900 , data were collected from the relevant official departments representing the locations of 97 wells of groundwater in the study area for the year 2019, as it included physicochemical parameters such as pH, EC, TDS, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl, , and . It used (kriging method) in the geographic information system to generate the groundwater physical and chemical parameters' spatial distribution and the water quality index map. To estimate the water quality index, ten parameters were considered pH, TDS, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl, , , and . The estimated WQI value for groundwater samples in the study area ranges from 50 to 300. Based on the analysis, most of the area under study falls approximately 70% in poor water class and 30% in good water class, where the distribution of the groundwater samples with respect to their quality classes such as excellent, good, poor, very poor and unfit for human drinking purpose, was found to be 3 %, 30 %, 33 %, 12 %, and 20 %, respectively.
Constructed wetlands (CWs) are simple low-cost wastewater treatment units that use natural process to improve the effluent water quality and make it possible for its reuse.in this study used the horizontal flow system for the tertiary treatment of wastewater effluent from secondary basins at Al-Rustamiya wastewater treatment plant / old project / Baghdad / Iraq. the Phragmites Australis plant was used for wastewater treatment and the horizontal subsurface flow system was applied. the experimental study was carried out in February 2020 to October 2020. the parameters were monitored for a period of five weeks, Concentration-based average removal efficiencies for HSSF-CW were COD,53% [NO]_3,41.3% [PO]_4,52% and TSS, 54.2%. Thus, constructed wetland can be considered as a sustainable alternative to the tertiary conventional treatment of wastewater, thus making it possible for reuse..
In this research an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique was applied for the prediction of Ryznar Index (RI) of the flowing water from WTPs in Al-Karakh side (left side) in Baghdad city for year 2013. Three models (ANN1, ANN2 and ANN3) have been developed and tested using data from Baghdad Mayoralty (Amanat Baghdad) including drinking water quality for the period 2004 to 2013. The results indicate that it is quite possible to use an artificial neural networks in predicting the stability index (RI) with a good degree of accuracy. Where ANN 2 model could be used to predict RI for the effluents from Al-Karakh, Al-Qadisiya and Al-Karama WTPs as the highest correlation coefficient were obtained 92.4, 82.9 and 79.1% respectively. For Al-Dora WTP, ANN 3 model could be used as R was 92.8%.
