This paper explores the relationship among key issues discussed in positive organizational behavior (POB) and the implications for organizational success. One of the key outcomes of this paper is to have a better understanding of the relationship between work and a person's broader purpose of existence, and how work helps to accomplish one's purpose of life. In addition, quantitative measures are used to determine the relationship between work and happiness; a positive organizational culture and firm performance; and positive employee characteristics and employee performance. Through various statistical analyses, positive relationships were found among typical measures of positive psychology, positive organizational behavior, and employee performance. Implications for organizations and utilizations of research findings to create sustainable competitive advantages are discussed.
How do HR professionals, Line Managers and non-HR Senior Executives view HR strategies? What are the main deliverables of HR activities as viewed by the different groups? What level of importance is placed on HR practices by the respective groups? What are the implications for the HR function? What gaps exist among the stakeholder groups of HR relating to the importance of HR? How can there be more synergy of HR practices among the stakeholder groups?Unlike previous research studies, this study examines a more holistic view of HR and the level of importance placed on the respective strategies. The findings not only identify the major accomplishments of HR and alignment to business strategies but also highlight several key areas in which there is a significant gap in emphasis and importance as viewed by different stakeholders.
With employers increasingly demanding a greater range of softer skills such as effective communication, the paper is intended to identify current accounting students' perspectives on soft skills, identify their self-assessed competence in the respective soft skills, and suggest ways in which accounting students can gain soft skills. We assessed students' level of perception/knowledge of soft skills, its' importance and their selfassessment of their level of possession of these skills. With a sample size of 313 participants, we found that there were fewer gaps in what students perceived as being important in the accounting profession and how prepared they are in fulfilling the expectations. In addition, we found that the universities were placing more emphasis on developing these soft skills that have shown to be beneficial in students' careers.
The demand for Master of Business Administration (MBA) education has increased tremendously over recent years.Having an MBA qualification is seen as a passport for a managerial role. The prestige of MBA education, however, has fluctuated. There have been numerous critiques of the MBA. This article examined the existing literature on perspectives of MBA faculty, MBA students, and employers on the effectiveness of MBA programs. So, from a student perspective, what are their expectations? Do their expectations get fulfilled? MBA faculty will frequently ponder if they are adequately preparing students to be leaders in organizations. Employers expect MBA graduates to excel in the workplace. In addition to the different perspectives, we offered several suggestions for greater success and satisfaction of students, faculty, and employers.

There is little doubt that technology is reshaping the way business in conducted in todays society. The goal of a business remains as an organized effort of individuals to produce and sell, for a profit, products and services that satisfy societys needs, but with greater utilization of technology to effectively compete in the global economy. Given the shift, this paper examines the relationship between Human Resource (HR) and Information Technology (IT) and their convergence in creating and sustaining competitive advantages. The paper addresses the major aspects of the HR function and how IT can be integrated in creating value for the organization.
Layoffs continue to plague organizations around the world especially as organizations attempt to optimize labor costs and other expenses. While there have been studies to attempt to understand the impact of layoffs, there are still gaps in the literature especially as we look at layoffs in the 21 st century. This research examined i) the impact of layoffs on individuals' psychological and physical well-being, ii) the impact of layoffs on the employees affective commitment, iii) coping strategies used by employees, and iv) job search strategies people are using to find new jobs. While, downsizing is a relatively common change management strategy that has been adopted for more than two decades, the prime impetus of most downsizing efforts is the desire for an immediate reduction of costs and simply survival.We found that individuals will experience significant more health problems after being laid off from their jobs. Individuals who have been unemployed for longer periods will have lower affective commitment to their former employers. We also found that maintaining more control-oriented coping strategies will be more progressive in their job searches and more able to cope with layoffs and that coping strategies are positively related to reemployment. In addition, individuals who are receiving unemployment insurance and other benefits, financial hardships exist resulting in significant challenges and life style changes and coping strategies are positively related to financial resources available to an individual.
