SUMMARY Methane hydrate is a kind of gas hydrate formed by physical binding between water molecules and methane gas, which is captured in the cavities of water molecules under a specific temperature and pressure. Pure methane hydrate of 1 m3 can be decomposed into methane gas of 172 m3 and water of 0.8 m3 at standard conditions. Methane hydrate has many practical applications such as separation processes, natural gas storage transportation, and carbon dioxide sequestration. For the industrial utilization of this substance, it is essential to find a rapid method of manufacturing it. This work studies the formation of methane hydrates by using tetrahydrofuran (THF) and oxidized carbon nanotubes (OMWCNTs) by testing different fluid mixtures of THF and carbon nanotubes. The results show that when the mixed fluid contained THF, the OMWCNTs showed the gas consumption 5.2 times that of distilled water at 3.4 K subcooling. Also, THF's effects as a thermodynamic phase equilibrium promoter were preserved when it was used with OMWCNTs. Therefore, it can be expected that when OMWCNTs are used with an aqueous mixture of THF, both the favorable phase equilibrium of THF and the high gas consumption of the carbon nanotubes can be obtained. Summary Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is an electric power generation method that utilizes temperature difference between the warm surface seawater and cold deep seawater of ocean. As potential sources of clean‐energy supply, OTEC power plants' viability has been investigated. However, The OTEC system has problems of low efficiency and high investment cost because the temperature difference between the surface and the deep sea is small and it has a long pipe line and high pumping cost for using cold deep water. Therefore, in this present study, the OTEC system is combined with a solar system. It evaluated the thermodynamic performance of Solar‐OTEC Convergence System for the simultaneous production with electric power and desalinated water. The performance analysis of Solar‐OTEC Convergence System was carried out as the fluid temperature, saturated temperature difference and pressure of flash evaporator under equivalent conditions. The results showed that the performance of solar‐open OTEC system is the highest at the flash evaporator pressure of 10 kPa. At this time, the system efficiency, electric power and desalination production enhancement ratios were approximately 3.9, 13.9 and 5.1 times higher than that of the base open OTEC system respectively. Also, the performance of solar‐hybrid OTEC system is the highest at the inflow fluid temperature of evaporator of 80 °C. The system efficiency, electric power and desalination production enhancement ratios were approximately 3.5, 3.5 and 14.5 times higher than that of the base hybrid OTEC system. Summary In this study, the critical heat flux (CHF) and heat‐transfer coefficient under the pool‐boiling state were tested using multi‐wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) CM‐95, CM‐100, and oxidized MWCNT CM‐100. The results showed that the highest CHF increase for both MWCNT CM‐95 and CM‐100 was at the volume fraction of 0.001%, and that the CHF increase ratio for MWCNT CM‐100 nanofluid with long particles was higher than that for MWCNT CM‐95 nanofluid with short particles. In addition, at the volume fraction of 0.001%, the oxidized MWCNT CM‐100 nanofluid indicated a 47.27% higher CHF‐increase ratio as well as an approximately 21.04% higher heat‐transfer coefficient increase ratio compared with the MWCNT CM‐100 nanofluid without oxidation treatment.
