Abstract-In this paper an extensive review of AF's has been presented to give a general viewpoint on this wide-ranging and rapidly developing topic. Large number of configurations for AF are presented here to compensate harmonic current, unbalance current, neutral current and reactive power. As there is a significant reduction in cost of both semiconductor devices and signal-processing devices and which makes more frequent use and selection of APF with the required features.
In this chapter the emerging control techniques for 25 MW small hydropower (SHP) plants which utilize fuzzy logic are compared with conventional PID control for the speed control of hydraulic turbine in terms of rise time, smoothness of response, settling time, and overshoot in wicket gate opening with the response to change in turbine speed. In the case of the PID controller, gain adjustment (tuning) is required. The fuzzy controller algorithm is based on intuition, experience, and it incorporates a simple, rule-based IF X AND Y THEN Z approach. These controllers obtained don't require gain adjustment. The work done is a small step towards the automation of the hydropower plants.
Doubly-fed induction generator wind turbines are largely developed due to their variable speed feature. The response of wind turbines to grid disturbance is an important issue, especially since the rated power of the wind turbine is increased; therefore, it is important to study the effect of grid disturbances on the wind turbine. In the chapter, the characteristics of the doubly-fed induction generator during wind speed fluctuation are studied. MATLAB/Simulink software has been used to observe the characteristics of wind turbines during wind speed fluctuation. Simulation results of the doubly-fed induction generator wind turbine system show improved system stability during wind speed variation. Power electronics converters used in the DFIG system are the most sensitive parts of the variable speed wind turbines with regards to system disturbances. To protect from excessive current, the DFIG system is equipped with an over-current and DC voltage overload protection system that trips the system under abnormal conditions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
