A síndrome da disfunção da articulação temporomandibular é uma condição clínica de origem multifatorial que acomete as estruturas da articulação temporomandibular e leva ao desenvolvimento de mialgia, artralgia e redução da amplitude articular. A terapêutica deve ser realizada por uma equipe multiprofissional que tenha como membro o profissional fisioterapeuta. A presente pesquisa objetivou realizar uma revisão sistemática sobre a eficácia das técnicas de fisioterapia na melhora do quadro clínico de pacientes com síndrome da disfunção da articulação temporomandibular apresentando uma rede de coautorias das publicações e identificando a formação básica dos autores, sintetizando o conhecimento por meio de análises bibliométricas. Foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados Biblioteca virtual em saúde pública - SciELO e Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, e os resultados foram baseados em oito estudos publicados nos últimos onze anos, os quais foram apresentados por representações gráficas e textos descritivos que evidenciaram a eficácia do uso de placa oclusal, do exercício postural global, da laserterapia com auriculoterapia, do infravermelho e de fotobiomodulação na melhora da sintomatologia da disfunção temporomandibular. Os estudos foram realizados por um número reduzido de grupos de pesquisa, formados por fisioterapeutas e cirurgiões dentistas. As técnicas da fisioterapia têm se mostrado complementares às da odontologia, sendo uma linha de pesquisa e terapia promissora, que pode promover melhora da qualidade de vida do paciente com síndrome da disfunção da articulação temporomandibular.
