The study reveals that men had better knowledge, beliefs and attitudes towards mental illness than women. Most of the women were afraid and not willing to keep friendships with the mentally ill. The results of this study underline the importance of information in changing people's attitude towards mental illness. Recognition of common mental disorders was very poor in men and women.
The study findings revealed that in general, psychiatry patients were quite satisfied with the services provided by the psychiatrists and the study found a gender difference in their satisfaction level with the mental health care. Male patients had significantly greater expectations from psychiatrists than females. The individuals of lower socio-economic status and less education tend to be less satisfied with the mental health care.
The findings of this study revealed that depression was more prevalent in the Qatari population than anxiety disorders. Women were likelier than men to have depression and anxiety disorders. The high-risk groups of depression and anxiety disorders were female gender, being married, middle aged, and highly educated.
