The TP of the same color of resin cements varied related to the type or brand. Aging caused both the ceramics and cemented ceramics to become more opaque.
Geminated teeth are the consequences of developmental anomalies leading to the eruption of joined elements. According to current definitions, gemination occurs when one tooth bud tries to divide, while fusion occurs if two buds unite. Clinical experience shows, however that diagnosis can be complicated due to superimposed anomalies. This report describes a unique case of bilateral gemination of permanent maxillary central incisors. The esthetic rehabilitation of the geminated incisors accomplished utilizing all ceramic crowns. It is important that in these types of cases, reaching to the available esthetics and avoiding the complication of caries and periodontal problems with prosthetic application is satisfactory.
This study evaluated the fracture load and failure mode of various veneer materials cemented with or without the addition of a fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) layer at the adhesive interface. Sixty intact incisors were randomly divided into three groups. Group 1 was fabricated with the heat-press technique (IPS Empress 2); Group 2 with the copy milling technique (ZirkonZahn); and Group 3 with the direct or indirect composite technique (Z250) -and specimens were cemented either with or without FRC at the adhesive interface. The specimens were thermocycled and tested with a universal testing machine. No significant differences in fracture load (p>0.05) were found among the various veneer materials. The addition of FRC at the adhesive layer did not lead to significant differences in the fracture load (p>0.05) but resulted in differences in the failure mode. Laminate veneers made of composite, zirconia, and Empress 2 showed comparable mean fracture loads. However, the use of FRC at the interface changed their failure modes.
In this study, the behavior of vibration of sandwich cylindrical shells covered by functionally graded coatings and resting on the Pasternak elastic foundation considering combined influences of shear stresses and rotary inertia are examined. It is assumed that the effective material properties of functionally graded coatings changes exponentially in thickness direction. The modified Donnell type equations of motion of functionally graded and homogeneous sandwich cylindrical shells on the Pasternak elastic foundation are deduced using the first-order shear deformation theory. Basic equations are reduced to an algebraic equation of the sixth order and numerically solving this algebraic equation gives the dimensionless fundamental frequency. The expressions for the dimensionless fundamental frequencies of functionally graded and ceramic coated sandwich cylindrical shells with and without taking into account the effects of Pasternak elastic foundation and shear stresses obtained in a special case. Calculations, the influences of an elastic foundation, compositional profiles of coatings, shear stresses, rotary inertia, and sandwich shell geometry parameters on the nondimensional fundamental frequency are described. The results are verified by comparing the obtained values with those in the existing literature.
Background
Fluorosis is one of the color anomalies seen in teeth. White lines and blurred areas associated with mild fluorosis are barely noticeable; in its severe form, tooth enamel surface changes ranging from staining and pitting may be observed. The treatment of fluorosis not only provides aesthetic and functional correction but also helps to improve the patient's self-esteem.
Methods
The present retrospective study evaluated the clinical quality, success rate, and estimated survival of porcelain laminate veneers in teeth with anterior fluorosis. Three hundred fifty-eight porcelain laminate veneers (254 in the anterior maxilla and 104 in the mandible) were "functional" restorations that covered the incisal edge and part of the palatal/lingual side of the tooth with a 1 mm high palatal bevel. Ceramic veneers were fabricated with lithium disilicate reinforced glass–ceramic material (IPS e.max Press, Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein). The modified United States Public Health Service criteria were used for clinical evaluation of the restorations.
Results
On the basis of these criteria, marginal adaptation, color match, marginal discoloration, surface roughness, restoration fracture, tooth fracture, restoration wear, antagonist tooth wear, caries and postoperative sensitivity were evaluated yearly. The survival rate in the current study was ≥ 0.997 for 10 years.
Conclusions
The results of this clinical study should encourage clinicians to consider ceramic veneers over crown restorations when restoring the smile of patients with advanced fluorosis.
