Introdução: Os cuidados paliativos (CP) trazem benefícios a todos que apresentam doença crônica, como câncer, e devem ser iniciados desde o diagnóstico. No entanto, com mais frequência que o desejado, são adotados quando a patologia se encontra sem possibilidades de cura ou quando a morte está anunciada e passasse à paliação, que visa a prevenção, alívio do sofrimento e qualidade de vida dos usuários/pacientes. O objetivo do estudo é construir e implementar de maneira coletiva, com a equipe multiprofissional, uma ferramenta que aborde os cuidados paliativos para pacientes oncológicos. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa-intervenção com abordagem qualitativa, que fará uso da roda de conversa como instrumento de coleta de dados. Os dados serão coletados e respeitando-se as resoluções 466/2012 e 510/2016, e a análise dos mesmos será realizada a partir da análise de Bardin. Os participantes serão a equipe multiprofissional que atua na clínica médica de um hospital público, na região Serrana, no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Resultados: pretende-se construir uma ferramenta que tenha valor de uso e aborde sobre CP com uma equipe multiprofissional que atende usuários/pacientes oncológicos hospitalizados; realizar educação permanente através das rodas de conversa e ao término, disponibilizar o material elaborado para a unidade hospitalar. Discussão: é importante iniciar o CP o quanto antes, para que os pacientes vivam com qualidade de vida independente do tempo, e para isso acontecer, profissionais precisam conhecer e saber empregar.
