Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar fatores que não contribuem para aleitamento materno efetivo, a promoção à adesão do aleitamento materno e os benefícios que o AM em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (UTIN). Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, exploratório descritivo que foi realizado através de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, com intuito de esclarecer os benefícios do aleitamento, identificar estratégias que auxiliam na promoção do aleitamento materno (AM), e identificar fatores que não efetivam essa prática em unidades neonatais. Os resultados mostraram que os benefícios do AM auxiliam no desenvolvimento elo mãe e filho e no desenvolvimento psiquico do RN, além de fatores nutricionais, fisiológicos, biológicos e imunológicos. O principal fator que não contribuí para AM é a separação mãe/filho, o contato físico é primordial para efetividade dessa prática. Em relação a promoção do aleitamento materno, a educação permanente, escuta qualificada, aplicabilidade de estratégias, como por exemplo o Método Mãe Canguru, acesso dos pais ao Recém-nascido Prematuro (RNP), através de flexibilização da rotina, são fatores primordiais para promoção e adesão dessa prática. Através da identificação dos fatores é possível traçar estratégias a fim de promover o aleitamento e prevenir motivos que impeçam a aplicabilidade desse método.
