O saneamento básico consiste em um conjunto de serviços, infraestruturas e instalações operacionais de abastecimento de água, esgotamento sanitário, limpeza urbana e drenagem pluvial. Assim, o saneamento básico é importante para a garantia da saúde pública, para a qualidade de vida e para o meio ambiente, pois a ausência desses serviços resulta em doenças infecciosas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a correlação temporal entre indicadores de saneamento básico e doenças de veiculação hídrica nos municípios de Pelotas e Rio Grande, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Foram obtidos os dados de doenças inseridas no CID – 10 e estas foram coletadas através do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde – DATASUS, onde coletou-se dados de internações por local de residências para as doenças pertencentes ao CID10: diarreia, hepatite, leptospirose, amebíase e febre tifoide. Os indicadores de saneamento foram extraídos do Sistema Nacional de Saneamento – SNIS, sendo que foram utilizados os índices de atendimento total de esgoto sanitário e o índice de atendimento total de abastecimento de água para os municípios estudados. Após o levantamento dos dados, foram analisados e comparados às doenças e os indicadores de saneamento através de uma estatística básica, correlação de Pearson e por fim, analisados através de uma análise de agrupamentos. Concluiu-se que as diarreias e a amebíase estão fortemente relacionadas à falta de rede de abastecimento de água e que a leptospirose, febre tifoide e a hepatite estão relacionadas à falta de esgotamento sanitário.
