COVID-19 is having a profound effect on student paramedics. This commentary aims to explore and discuss how student paramedics have been affected by COVID -19 and seeks to identify the perceived impact of this experience.
The aim of this commentary is to outline a case for student paramedics as a potential solution to the operational resource issues ambulances services and other healthcare institutions are expected to experience during high demand situations, such as pandemics.
This commentary aims to provide an overview of the current state and territory ambulance service cardiac arrest management recommendations to paramedics during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight relevant risks to personnel.
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, has strained international healthcare systems, including ambulance availability. Ambulance officers and paramedics are at the frontline of this pandemic and are therefore particularly exposed. Under normal operational circumstances, ambulance delivery is challenging; the effects of COVID-19 have exacerbated both the delivery of services and the stress placed on paramedics.
In this case report, we describe a 12-hour emergency ambulance dayshift in central London during the second wave city-wide lockdown. We also discuss the impact COVID-19 has on day-to-day operations and the strategies employed to reduce paramedic infection.
