Ii est d'nutant plus regrettable que l'auteur, dans 1'8ge nvnnce, nit voulu 54 PEETER ARUMAA refaire cet ouvrage de jeunesse et qu'il en ait public! une nouvelle edition, Die iilteren Beriihrungen zivischen Ostsefinnisch und Russisch (iWe'm. de la SOC. finno-ougrienne LXXXV, Helsingfors 1938). Comme nouveaua BCments, il y a introduit beaucoup de polemique, de caractkre discutable, sur la qualit6 et les eventualit& des diverses couches d'emprunt. C'est pourquoi tous les critiques de la seconde edition ont dii prendre la defense de la premiere (J. Magiste, Eesti Keel XVII, 1938, pp. 147 ss; &I. Vasmer, Zeitschr. fur slav. Phil. XV, 1938, pp. 448-455; J. Kalima, Finnischugrische Forsch. XXVI, 1939-40, pp. 38-50; T. Torbiornsson, Kungl. Hum. Vet. Samf. i Uppsala, Arsbok 1913).
