The "Sistema El&hico Patag6nico Intmectado (SFPI)" is an elechic system that involves the Argentina south region. This electric system is isolated fiom the other one in the north of the country. The 60% of its load is consumed by an aluminum production plant consisting of two 160 MW series of 200 electrolytic cells each one. Dynamic and transient stability studies carried out over this system, taking into Bccount present and future situations, with load and genedon grown at the aluminum plant and in the remaining system, require adequate modeling of this particular load. Tests and simulations canied out to obtain the electrolytic process load model are &scribed. Statistical behavior of the aluminum plant load variations is a n a l p 4 to estimate the spinning reserve in the system. By the way, available load shedding mechanisms at the aluminum plant, as a system control element, were tested and the results are analyzed.
An outstanding application of thin Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coatings is its use on disks, heads and sliders in the magnetic disk storage technology. [1] The microtribology is subject to other effects, arising in the macroscopic case. [2] For the important measuring range between Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and the macroscopic procedures, there are MEMS tribometers providing insights into the complexity of tribology at the scale of these devices. [3] For a reliable function of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) with components in relative motion to each other, controlling wear and friction is of utmost importance. A reduction of friction and wear is achieved by coating both contact surfaces of a tribological pairing with DLC. [3] The investigations focused on different mating materials. As a typical material for MEMS Si(100) wafers were used. For magnetic components sputter deposited Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo) typically for thin-film permanent magnets and the soft epoxy resin SU-8 TM as organic insulator material were investigated. The resulting layers obtain an amorphous hydrogenated structure and properties between diamond and graphite depending on the degree of sp 3 and sp 2 hybridization. To analyze the long term behavior of micro actuator contacts, the Institute for Microtechnology (imt) at the Leibniz Universitaet Hannover used a Rotating Tribological Tester (RTT), which was described earlier, [4,5] allowing an examination of the wear of the substrates and the protective layers. Similarly, the analysis of the flat-flat contact of the counter-
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
