Coursevo (http://coursevo.com/) is a multilingual multimedia information system for managing courses, supporting learning processes and learning communities through the Web. Its multi-tenant architecture supports multiple instances of the underlying server infrastructure using the same core to serve the needs of multiple communities. An advantage of Coursevo in comparison with other eLearning systems is the emphasis that is given in the use of multimedia as a powerful learning means. Learning activities using multiple media can be more effective than doing it through a single medium (such as text), but what is important is combining media effectively. Coursevo is used in several vocational training and life-long-learning initiatives to establish and continuously support
Onlife Communities. An Onlife Community is an aggregation that emerges in hyperconnected spaces when humans engage with other humans as well as with machines and natural entities in mindful interactions with sufficient human feeling to form webs of personal relationships. The paper presents how Coursevo is extended with gamification facilities to enable game-based learning scenarios within the context of the GAME IT project and beyond.
We present the design, implementation and evaluation of a training programme for Computer Science teachers on the educational use of the Python programming language inside and outside school. The programme used pre-existing educational resources centered on meaningful, self-contained programming projects. The training programme followed a blended-learning approach thus offering an opportunity to many computer science teachers make their first steps towards the educational use of the Python language within a very promising learner-centered pedagogical framework. After the initial training phase, the participating teachers were supported to establish and run local Python code clubs.
The paper presents the experience from establishing, running and evaluating one of them, established at Chania, Crete by three of the authors. The evaluation clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the code club approach to learning to code in a manner that is engaging, fun and meaningful for the students and opens up new creative opportunities for them.
Ever since the creation of the Albanian state in 1913, the Greek-Albanian relations have often been tense and emotional. Mainly focused on the presence and the rights of the Hellenic minority in Albania – and especially in the region of Northern Epirus which was the object of Greek territorial claims for many decades – over the years, these bilateral relations have known many periods of tension with international repercussions. Indeed, from the time of the League of Nations until the catalytic changes in Europe in 1989 and the post-bipolar international order, the issue of the Hellenic minority has dominated and defined the bilateral relations, and has often caused the reaction of international institutions and emotional outbursts of Greek public opinion. Furthermore, it has affected the broader Balkan stage and the security and stability of the region, with the interrelation of minority questions in all Balkan countries.
