Resumo: Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar um modelo de processo que fomente estudos de uso de novos materiais em design de produtos. Esse foi desenvolvido junto à um grupo de pesquisa brasileiro, que sintetiza e caracteriza materiais poliméricos como estratégia para a criação de produtos com alto valor agregado por meio do ecodesign. O modelo proposto foi construído de modo empírico, a partir da análise de estudo de caso referente à aplicação do compósito de matriz polimérica com incorporação de fibras vegetais em um projeto de produto. Os resultados obtidos foram: (i) o delineamento do caminho percorrido no estudo de caso, em processo, etapas, atividades e ferramentas; (ii) a representação gráfica do processo em um ciclo radial, cujo material proposto é apresentado como ideia central e em anel externo são acrescentados círculos subsequentes que apontam constantemente para uma relação com o círculo ou ideia central e (iii) a designação do modelo como Material-Produto-Usuário (MPU), considerando a contínua relação entre as partes. Por fim, pondera-se que o modelo de processo obtido encontra-se em estágio embrionário, sendo que novos estudos devem ser realizados para aprimorar, validar e consolidar o modelo. Por exemplo,
