Our data demonstrate that S-(+)-ketamine possesses anti-inflammatory potential. Anaesthesia with S-(+)-ketamine may have beneficial effects in attenuating the CPB-induced systemic inflammatory response.

It can be safely performed in one short session with gastroesophageal endoscopy under conscious sedation in an outpatient setting. It improves GERD symptoms and quality-of-life scores in patients at 3 months and eliminates or significantly reduces the need for antisecretory drugs.
