Während die chemische Oxidation (z. B. H 2 O 2 -Prozess) Stand der Technik [1] ist, wird die anodische Oxidation für den EDTA-Abbau in der industriellen Abwasserbehandlung noch nicht eingesetzt, obwohl die Anwendbarkeit in der Literatur [2] bestätigt worden ist. Ziel dieses Projekts war die Untersuchung der anodischen Oxidation von EDTA. Bei den Versuchen diente eine als Halbzelle ausgeführte Elektrolysezelle als Reaktor. Anode und Kathode waren durch eine Kationentauschermembran voneinander getrennt. Als Anode diente eine netzfömige DSA-Elektrode (Ti/IrO 2 ), Edelstahl als Kathode. Der Verlauf der EDTA-Konzentration und die ¾nderung des chemischen Sauerstoffbedarfs (CSB) wurden analysiert.Untersucht wurde die photokatalytische Aktivierung des anodisch hergestellten Sauerstoffs mittels UV-Strahlung mit dem Ziel der Bildung von Sauerstoffradikalen (Singulet-Sauerstoff) und in Folge O 3 -oder OH-Radikalen nach der Gleichung:
