The paper discusses a range of areas, including a critical assessment of the state and accomplishments of Polish geography of crime; the theoretical and methodological achievements of various academic fields and disciplines that contribute to research into crime; and the underutilisation by Polish geographers of worldwide scientific achievements in this area. The paper outlines the interpretative possibilities extensively developed within other academic disciplines and pertaining to the study of crime that are now open to geographers.
Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie podstaw profilowania geograficznego, jako metody mającej zastosowanie w analizach przestrzennych sporządzanych na potrzeby wykrywania sprawców przestępstw. Wychodząc z założenia, że rozmieszczenie przestępstw i zachowania sprawców wykazują pewne prawidłowości przestrzenne, wykorzystuje się podejście geograficzne w procesie wykrywania tych sprawców. W kolejnych częściach artykułu przedstawione zostały podstawy teoretyczno-metodologiczne profilowania geograficznego, uwarunkowania skuteczności prowadzenia analiz przestrzennych, zasady generowania geoprofili. Na podstawie analizowanej literatury przedstawiona została krytyka i ograniczenia stosowania profilowania geograficznego, ale także dowiedziona została efektywność tej metody jako techniki śledczej.
Przestrzeń miasta może być źródłem różnych zagrożeń, które oddziałują na poziom poczucia bezpieczeństwa jego mieszkańców. W artykule dokonano analizy różnych aspektów zachowań obronnych mieszkańców, które podejmowane są jako skutek percepcji różnorodnych i zróżnicowanych przestrzennie zagrożeń występujących w Łodzi oraz subiektywnego ryzyka wiktymizacji odczuwanego przez osoby w wieku senioralnym. Zachowania obronne mieszkańców w przestrzeni miasta, są bowiem reakcją na realne bądź percypowane zagrożenia tam występujące.
