Im Jahre 1876 iiberzeugte,sich Kerr2), da6 der Polarisationszustand linear polarisierten Liclites sich andert, wenn der Lichtstrahl von einem ferromagnetischen, im Magnetfelde aufgestellten Spiegel reflektiert wird. Mit der eingehenden Untersuchung dieser Erscheinung beschaftigten sich spater Gordon5), Fitzgerald4), Hall6), Kaz6), Righi'), Kundts), d u Boisg), Sissingh"), Zeemanll) und manche andere. Es wurde ubereinstimmend festgestellt , daB dieses sogenannte Kerrsche Phanomen nur bei ferromagnetischen Substanzen wie Fe, Ni, Co, Fe,O, vorzukommen pflegt; paraoder diamagnetische Metallewie z. B.
