The COVID -19 pandemic has disrupted daily lives and affected the entire healthcare system, including dental treatment. Efforts have been taken to formulate ways to counter the pandemic. Dental practices have adopted modifications of dental protocols with the incorporation of preventive measures. The aim of this survey was to study the patient outlook towards dental treatment and the awareness of patients about the preventive measures provided by their dentists in the post-Covid era. Hence a cross-sectional study was conducted on patients wanting to undergo dental treatments in the US, UK and India with a total of 121 participants per country during post covid pandemic. The study was conducted using a questionnaire prepared by the researcher, which consisted of 22 questions. The results showed that pain was the main reason for dental visits in all three countries. In the US and UK, a large percentage of people preferred video and teleconsulting even in the post-covid period, while in India, the majority preferred personal dental visits. The trend of avoiding dental treatment was widespread in India, displaying the level of ignorance and financial constraints among them. It indicates the need for better awareness about the importance of oral health and the inclusion of dental insurance schemes.
The compounds 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives (1-8) were synthesized by the cyclization of 4-hydroxy benzhydrazide (1) with various substituted aroma-tic aldehydes (2) using FeCl3 as catalyst and methanol as a solvent medium. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were assigned based on FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and mass spectral data. In vivo antidepressant activity was performed by tail suspension test and forced swimming test models. Using the Schrodinger Maestro, the in silico analysis was performed and docked to the glycogen synthase kinase 3β binding site (PDB: 3GB2). Compounds 8 [4,4'-(1,3,4-oxadiazole-2,5-diyl)diphenol] and 3 [3-(5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl) phenol] showed both potent inhibitory activity against GSK-3β with a docking score of -7.800 kcal/mol as well as good antidepressant activity in both tail suspension and forced swimming tests models. The synthesized derivatives showed good antidepressive potential.
Objectives This study is aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of moist heat fomentation therapy with ultrasound therapy in patients with the masticatory myalgia. Materials and Methods The study was conducted on 42 patients with masticatory myalgia, dividing them into two groups; Group A (21 patients), received moist heat therapy and Group B (21 patients), received ultrasound therapy for seven effective days. Prior and after the treatment the numeric rating scale (NRS) and the electromyography (EMG) scores were recorded and compared. The observations were analyzed clinically and statistical support was taken to assess the NRS and EMG data. Results Irrespective of the groups, patients testified a significant reduction in pain after the treatment. From the EMG readings; even though the standard deviation for each group was varied considerably, EMG recorded an improved muscle activity. Statistical analysis was used to assess and identify the best treatment methodology between the two modalities. Conclusion From the statistical analysis, it is concluded that, though both the therapies had significantly reduced the symptomatic response, it is moist heat fomentation that improved muscle activity both statistically and clinically in comparison to ultrasound.
