Antibacterial packaging is introduced as a new method to prevent microbial food spoilage. Antibacterial effects of TiO2, ZnO and mixed TiO2–ZnO nanoparticle‐coated low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) films on Escherichia coli PTCC1330 were investigated. Bactericidal efficiency of 0.5%, 1% and 2% TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles and also 1% mixed TiO2–ZnO nanoparticles with ratios of 25/75, 50/50 and 75/25 were tested under ultraviolet (UV) and fluorescent lights at two states: films alone and fresh calf minced meat packed. Maximum colony‐forming unit (CFU) reduction of 99.8% and 99.7% were obtained using 1% and 2% ZnO nanoparticle‐coated LDPE film under fluorescent light for films alone as well as 99.8% and 99.6% for fresh calf minced meat packed. 90.3% and 51.8% CFU reduction were recorded for 1% TiO2 nanoparticle‐coated LDPE films in the presence of UV light at direct contact with bacteria and fresh calf minced meat packed, respectively. Maximum CFU reductions of 96% and 64.1% were obtained using 50/50 ratio of TiO2/ZnO nanoparticles at the presence of UV light for film alone and fresh calf minced meat packed, respectively. ZnO nanoparticle‐coated LDPE films were identified as the best case to improve shelf life and prevent E. coli growth in fresh calf minced meat.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different combinations of long-chain inulin and short-chain galactooligosaccharides mixed with different hydrocolloids on the physical/rheological attributes of prebiotic ketchup. Novel prebiotic ketchup was produced in which modified starch, xanthan, and guar gum was incorporated. Results showed that modified starch negatively influenced the physical properties of prebiotic samples and the optimum condition was 7.5% long-chain inulin and 2.5% galactooligosaccharides along with 0.4 % xanthan and 0.18% guar gum. Under these conditions, smaller hysteresis loop area, higher values of the linear viscoelastic region, larger G 0 , η 0 in the creep test, and smaller sized suspended particles as compared to the other prebiotic samples were observed. In addition, galactooligosaccharides may interfere with the elastic behavior due to its high water solubility. Therefore, an appropriate amount (2.5%) of this ingredient may be used to produce a nutritive prebiotic ketchup with desirable textural properties. Environmental scanning electron microscopic images confirmed larger and inter-connected air bubbles entrapped into the semi-solid matrix of prebiotic sample produced under optimum condition.

Objectives: Effective pain therapy after cesarean section is essential for parturient comfort and to allow early ambulation to facilitate care of her infant. This study evaluated the analgesic effect of preventive 1gr intravenous paracetamol on postoperative pain and analgesic consumption during the 24 hours after cesarean section. Materials and Methods: One-hundred American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) I or II status parturient scheduled for elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. Patients received 1gr iv paracetamol into 100 ml normal saline (study group; n=50) or normal saline alone (placebo group; n=50) 20 minutes before the end of operation. Results: Pain scores were lower in the study group in the Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) (p<0.001) and up to 4h after operation (p<0.001). Cumulative analgesic consumption was lower in the study group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Preventive administration of 1gr iv paracetamol reduces the intensity of pain in the PACU and until 4h after operation and analgesic consumption following cesarean section.
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are among the main reasons for cancer death globally. The deadliest types of GI cancer include colon, stomach, and liver cancers. Multiple lines of evidence have shown that angiogenesis has a key role in the growth and metastasis of all GI tumors. Abnormal angiogenesis also has a critical role in many non-malignant diseases. Therefore, angiogenesis is considered to be an important target for improved cancer treatment. Despite much research, the mechanisms governing angiogenesis are not completely understood. Recently, it has been shown that angiogenesis-related non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) could affect the development of angiogenesis in cancer cells and tumors. The broad family of ncRNAs, which include long non-coding RNAs, microRNAs, and circular RNAs, are related to the development, promotion, and metastasis of GI cancers, especially in angiogenesis. This review discusses the role of ncRNAs in mediating angiogenesis in various types of GI cancers and looks forward to the introduction of mimetics and antagonists as possible therapeutic agents.
