O fenômeno da patologização sob o olhar da medicalização na contemporaneidade tem sido um indicador negativo ao indivíduo enquanto pessoa-pensante nos diferentes espaços do cotidiano. Ademais, tal condição pode comprometer nos sentidos e significados de suas experiências, roubando-lhe a liberdade e a própria responsabilidade. Essa ordem discursiva, resultante de um discurso biomédico, leva-se à prática da medicalização frente às adversidades da vida, gerando, pois, o que se denomina de angústia existencial. A problemática envolvida no presente artigo foi: Como a medicalização pode afetar os fenômenos existenciais do homem? Para isso, objetivou-se descrever acerca da Psicologia Fenomenológica-Existencial agregada à Medicalização da Existência, levantar reflexões quanto ao uso injustificável (abusivo) dos psicofármacos e a sua relação com a indústria farmacêutica. Tratou-se de um estudo exploratório, a partir dos métodos de uma revisão integrativa da literatura das seguintes bases de dados: LILACS, PEPSICO e Google Acadêmico; em artigos indexados nos últimos 12 anos. Dos 20 trabalhos selecionados, concluiu-se que a visão fenomenológica contempla o homem como ser singular e pluridimensional em um mundo cheio de sentido, e que o sofrimento humano é concebido a partir da privação da realização da liberdade existencial, que quando presos a uma perspectiva negativa de sua própria existência, adoecem, passando a apresentar uma visão distorcida de si. Os psicofármacos aparecem como solução rápida e prática às suas problemáticas, tratando como doença o que é normal à existência. A visão fenomenológica da psicopatologia e a medicalização da existência, representam conhecimentos estruturantes a um novo saber acerca do sofrimento humano e a relação com a existência, em prol de um olhar ressignificado.
