The liquid medium B-2 proved to be significantly more sensitive for the isolation of tubercle bacteria from menstrual blood and endometrium than the standard U1T egg medium. In female genital tuberculosis the number of tubercle bacteria in bacteriologically examined material is usually very low. The purpose of this article is to show that nevertheless by means of a sensitive medium results can be improved for cultures of menstrual blood and endometrium.
It was found that the addition of 0.5% of glucose to the medium B-2 decreases the latter’s efficiency. The same was true for the addition of ribonucleic acid. Penicillin was a little more effective as decontaminant than malachite green. The medium prepared with fresh human plasma gave the same results as the medium prepared with human serum.
