This paper presents a qualitative research study in order to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the professional e-portfolio as a tool for active job search in the transition process to the labour market of future university graduates. In this process, the University plays a key role regarding the training and career guidance of these young people. In this task of advice and support, information, and communication technologies and, particularly, the e-portfolio, are becoming tools which facilitate, on the one hand, self-knowledge, and the design of a professional project and, on the other hand, the understanding of the work environment. This study originated from an educational innovation project within the compulsory course named Guidance, training, and socio-labour insertion, taught during the third year of the Degree in Social Education (University of Cordoba, Spain). Throughout the theoretical and practical sessions of this course, students have been designing and shaping their professional project, which has been finally reflected in their professional e-portfolio. The results show how the design of this tool by students has contributed to their self-knowledge and the definition of their professional interests and goals. Likewise, the e-portfolio favours lifelong learning and fosters digital skills acquisition among participating students. However, this same strength may become a threat if they lack the necessary digital competence or have no access to technological resources to develop it independently.
The aim of our study is to verify the influence of Religious Education on Spanish adolescents by applying a quantitative study based on descriptive and social research methods which reflect the religious and social plurality of Spain, with a total of 679 secondary education students. By means of the Delphi technique, an exploratory and semi-confirmatory factor analysis, and a confirmatory analysis using structural equations, the psychometric properties of the questionnaire designed are guaranteed. Using a multivariate analysis of variance, after the Levene test, multiple comparisons are made in order to assess the difference between religions and gender with respect to school Religious Education. Significant differences and large effect sizes are found. The results show first that experiences with regard to religion in school are more positive for the group of Christian women and that of Muslim men; second, that the knowledge of religion helps in the daily development of adolescents; third, that men from the two major religious groups and Jewish women demand more autonomy; and lastly, that students consider that the curricular development of religion in school should be reviewed, although it is confirmed that Religious Education is regarded as important for their life and future development.
This study analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the professional e-portfolio as a tool for preparing students in higher education to enter the labor market. It also examines students’ level of planning to enter professional employment, and the help that they receive with this task from the university. The research is quantitative and observes the students’ opinions before and after they create their own professional e-portfolio, as a case study. We used the analysis of means to determine the trend in the aspects analyzed over time, and the Student’s t-test and Cohen’s d to determine the effect size. We also performed correlation analysis between the different categories and subcategories proposed. The results show that the e-portfolio is a tool with strengths for labor market entry, while also revealing the weaknesses that students find in it. At the very least, the e-portfolio was useful to the students in planning their entry into the workforce. The correlations show high levels among the strengths but not among the weaknesses analyzed.
Abstract: The phenomenon of globalisation has transformed our educational centres into plural environments. Cultural diversity is concentrated and coexists in them; and religious beliefs, which are learned within cultures, constitute a major social and political issue which must be therefore addressed as a priority in scientific-social research, as well as its educational implications. This aim of this research work is to figure out and then describe the implicit thinking of young people about religious diversity and the teaching of religion in Spain, using the European project REDCo (Religion in Education: A contribution to dialogue or a factor of conflict in transforming societies of European Countries) as a basis. This project is funded by the Research Department of the European Commission and is intended to establish the potentialities and limitations of religion in the educational systems of eight different countries, namely Estonia, Russia, Norway, Germany, Netherlands, England, France and Spain. The instrument used for the collection of data has been a questionnaire validated by RDCo. It was administered to 385 students from four Secondary Education centres in Córdoba (Spain), characterised by their complex and changing diversity of beliefs. The descriptive analyses indicate, first, the interest of students to understand other religions and/or worldviews through flexible grouping; second; the existence of different experiences with religion in the school and, third; the varying positions of students with respect to the different models of teaching religion.
