Este artigo objetiva contribuir para melhores práticas na utilização da ferramenta Planejamento Estratégico, através da análise das potencialidades e dificuldades identificadas pelos Gestores, sobre a ferramenta planejamento estratégico, e sobre o desenvolvimento e implantação da ferramenta no Instituto Federal Catarinense. A pesquisa ocorreu através de questionário estruturado, aplicado aos Gestores do IFC, de 06 a 25 de outubro de 2019. Nos resultados da pesquisa, referente a ferramenta planejamento estratégico, as potencialidades identificadas foram: princípio da continuidade dos processos; mudança nos processos-inovação; e clareza no desenvolvimento das etapas do planejamento estratégico. As dificuldades identificadas foram: resistência na mudança de processos; acompanhamento/monitoramento do atingimento dos objetivos; e quantidade de informações necessárias para utilização e monitoramento da ferramenta. Já em relação ao desenvolvimento e implantação do planejamento estratégico, as potencialidades identificadas foram: utilização de dados como base/auxílio para o desenvolvimento de outros documentos e/ou ações; alinhamento institucional; e envolvimento dos gestores da instituição. As dificuldades identificadas foram: quantidade de atores envolvidos no processo de implantação; acompanhamento/monitoramento no atingir os objetivos; e conhecimento da ferramenta pelos gestores. Entre as contribuições para melhores práticas em futuras implantações do planejamento estratégico, destacam-se: necessidade de verificação prévia dos dados e informações sobre a Instituição; diagnóstico do conhecimento dos Gestores sobre a ferramenta planejamento estratégico e da capacitação adequada a realidade da Instituição; apresentação aos Gestores da proposta e identificação dos atores que participarão e contribuirão no processo do planejamento estratégico, esclarecendo cada etapa do processo; utilização da tecnologia no processo de controle, otimizando a sistematização de dados e informações; e engajamento de todos.
