The China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is the next device in the roadmap for the realization of fusion energy in China, which aims to bridge the gaps between the fusion experimental reactor ITER and the demonstration reactor (DEMO). CFETR will be operated in two phases. Steady-state operation and self-sufficiency will be the two key issues for Phase I with a modest fusion power of up to 200 MW. Phase II aims for DEMO validation with a fusion power over 1 GW. Advanced H-mode physics, high magnetic fields up to 7 T, high frequency electron cyclotron resonance heating and lower hybrid current drive together with off-axis negative-ion neutral beam injection will be developed for achieving steady-state advanced operation. The recent detailed design, research and development (R&D) activities including integrated modeling of operation scenarios, high field magnet, material, tritium plant, remote handling and future plans are introduced in this paper.
Global petroleum exploration is currently undergoing a strategic shift from conventional to unconventional hydrocarbon resources. Unconventional hydrocarbons in tight reservoirs show characteristics distinct from those of conventional hydrocarbon sources hosted in structural and stratigraphic traps. The characteristic features include the following: a hydrocarbon source and reservoir coexist; porosity and permeability are ultra-low; nano-pore throats are widely distributed; hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir bodies are continuously distributed; there is no obvious trap boundary; buoyancy and hydrodynamics have only a minor effect, and Darcy's law does not apply; phase separation is poor; there is no uniform oil-gas-water interface or pressure system; and oil or gas saturation varies. Examples of unconventional hydrocarbon accumulations are the Mesozoic tight sandstone oil province and the Upper Paleozoic tight sandstone gas province in the Ordos Basin, north-central China. Generally, continuous hydrocarbon accumulation over a large A C C E P T E D M A N U S C R I P T ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT 2 area is a distinguishing characteristic of unconventional hydrocarbon sources.Because of the great potential of unconventional petroleum resources, it is believed that research on such resources will be at the forefront of the future development of petroleum geology.
Postoperative adhesion formation often ruins the quality of life or is an obstacle to illnesses with curative operation such as cancer. Previously we demonstrated that interferon-γ-promoted fibrin deposition drove postoperative adhesion formation. However, its underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. We found that myofibroblasts of the adhesion predominantly expressed signature molecules of mesothelial cells that line the serosa. Microarray analysis revealed IL-6 as a key underlying player, supported by elevated IL-6 levels in the peritoneal fluid of post-laparotomy human subjects. Injured serosa of cecum-cauterized mice also exhibited induction of Il6, which was followed by Tnf, concomitant with rapid accumulation of neutrophils, substantial population of which expressed TGF-β1, a master regulator of fibrosis. Besides, neutrophil-ablated mice showed reduction in induction of the adhesion, suggesting that TGF-β1+neutrophils triggered the adhesion. Human neutrophils expressed TGFB1 in response to TNF-α and TNF in response to IL-6. Moreover, anti-IL-6 receptor monoclonal antibody abrogated neutrophil recruitment and adhesion formation. Thus, IL-6 signaling represents a potential target for the prevention of postoperative adhesions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
