Objetivo: evaluar las características psicológicas y presencia de sintomatología ansiosa, depresiva y malestar psicológico, en mujeres con embarazos de alto riesgo con y sin antecedentes de pérdidas perinatales. Material y métodos: estudio retrospectivo, comparativo y transversal. Se seleccionó por conveniencia una muestra de 114 mujeres que asistían al Instituto Nacional de Perinatología “Isidro Espinosa de los Reyes”, a las cuales se les aplicaron los siguientes instrumentos: cuestionario de depresión de Beck (bdi), Inventario de ansiedad rasgo-estado de Spielberberg (idare) y cuestionario general de salud de Goldberg (30 reactivos). Resultados: al comparar el grupo que sufrió pérdidas contra el grupo que no las tuvo, no se observaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en las puntuaciones de los instrumentos empleados, sin embargo, encontramos una pequeña diferencia clínica entre ambas muestras. Conclusiones: en el caso de embarazos de alto riesgo, la diferencia entre los perfiles psicológicos de las mujeres con pérdida perinatal y aquéllas sin dicho antecedente fue marginal en lo que respecta al nivel de depresión y ansiedad, sin que dicha diferencia fuera estadísticamente significativa. El malestar psicológico parece presentarse de la misma forma en los dos grupos; probablemente, los perfiles psicológicos en ambos casos pudieron estar influidos por la condición de riesgo. Es importante que el médico familiar realice una valoración inicial sobre el estado de ánimo y la sintomatología ansiosa de las pacientes embarazadas.
