Self-Concept is the overall perception of individuals about their own personality and behaviours. It is a very common indicator of students’ academic achievement. Self-Concept can be considered as the sum total of persons’ thoughts and beliefs about how they are. The present study puts emphasis on the Self-Concept of Post Graduate level students in Purulia district of West Bengal. The objectives of the study are to express the differences between the Self-Concept of Female and Male students; Urban and Rural students & Arts and Science students of Post Graduate level respectively. Descriptive survey method is followed to conduct the study. The researchers have selected 200 Post Graduate level students from Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University of Purulia district as the sample of the study by using stratified random sampling technique. ‘Self Concept Scale’ developed by Dr. (Mrs.) Pratibha Deo was used to collect the data. No significant difference was found in the Self-Concept of Post Graduate level students in respect to their Gender (Female and Male) and Stream (Arts and Science group); but there was a significant difference in their Self-Concept on the basis of Residence (Urban and Rural). Education plays a pivotal role in rebuilding and upholding the nation over the years. The British who first came to India as simple traders before holding the power as it's rulers as well as administrators, had significantly influenced the whole political, social, educational and economic setting of India. It was not possible for the British to control Indians easily; they made earlier attempt to develop a new education system in India so that the native Indians can be manipulated easily. At the same time India was the witness of those notable Indians who sacrificed their lives in order to make India better developed. Their tireless efforts made Bengal Renaissance easier at that colonial period. The present paper is an attempt to discuss some educational concern at that British colonial period and at the same time, to explore the contributions of Indian great social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in the journey of Bengal Renaissance of 19 th century.
Education is a strong and effective tool for promoting social development from the earlier period of history. Widespread education can spark the process of social change by changing social thoughts, beliefs and customs. A good education can create the environment of social equality and gives everyone the same opportunities or possibilities regardless of caste, class, religion, or social background. Additionally, it teaches individuals how to live a healthy, prosperous life and helps them let go of social rigidity. Looking back over the last few decades, it is clear that women’s place in the society has evolved significantly in many ways; among them education can be considered as the most reliable one. A well-planned education empowers women to take part in every sphere of society and gives them the courage and confidence to speak up in opposition to any kind of unfavourable aspects of society. The present study is an attempt to explore women participation in reshaping the society by eradication of social illness and inequalities. The author also recalled the name of some lesser-known women educators in the overall process of women empowerment in Indian society in comparison to the western world. A woman can find the best way to define and make her presence feel is by having the equality of access to a leading education, participating in politics, and being empowered. In addition to running her household, pursuing a career, raising her children, etc., she participates in politics to broaden the scope of her social participation. Feminists have outlined the status of women, their place in society, and the challenges they face in a variety of contexts. By looking at the roles which women play and the problems they encounter, the current essay seeks to explore how women are portrayed in culture. A pivotal part of social development is women empowerment which not only broaden the scope of women education but also motivates women to protest against several social violences. Present study is an attempt to explore major thoughts of some eminent personalities regarding social and educational development through which the moto of national development can be achieved.
