is a Muslim country that has achieved a lot of success either in the field of development, economic or even social. Malaysia is the founder of the Islamic financial system that is increasingly globally popular. Malaysia is also a precursor to the Islamic-based quality management system when the government launched the Islamic Quality Management System MS1900 in 2005. The quality system underlined three (3) objectives (SIRIM, 2005): i. To inculcate Shari'ah requirements into quality management practices with an emphasis on value-based management. ii. To enhance the level of effectiveness and efficiency through the practice of universal good conduct at all levels of the organization. iii. To enhance the level of Shari'ah compliance and confidence among Muslims and stakeholders MS1900 is developed using ISO 9001 as its basis. MS1900 is a structured system to assist organizations in delivering products and services that meet customers' requirements, as well as regulatory requirements and the dictates of Shari'ah. The Shari'ah requirements are included as an addition to the requirements of ISO 9001, and aim to close the gap that exists in the ISO 9001 standard in relation to the Islamic perspective (Long, 2008). There are three (3) main areas within any Shari'ah requirement. They are 'Aqidah', which is the belief system, 'Akhlaq', which are behavioural traits, and 'Fiqh', which refers to dealing or interaction with fellow human beings, the environment and religious observance (Othman, 2013). MS1900 was initiated under the Malaysian Industry Standards Committee on Halal Standards, (MISC I) (Bernama, 2010). MS1900 has attracted considerable attention for implementation from many Malaysian organizations. There are many organizations in Malaysia implementing MS1900 in their endeavour to obtain MS1900 certification (Malaysian Certified, 2016). Apparently, the interest to implement MS1900 in Malaysia is quite momentous. Currently, there are 23 organizations that have successfully obtained MS1900 certification. Despite the enthusiasm towards MS1900 quality management system, so far, only few empirical study was conducted to find details on the implementation process of MS1900 (

Malaysia is currently focusing on providing affordable housing all over the country, as part of the plan to tackle the problem of the rising costs of house ownership due to reasons such as the economic crisis and land limitations. However, a limited number of methodical studies have been conducted on residents' feedback on the indoor environment of affordable housing. Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is an important aspect of occupants' wellbeing, as it affects their health and productivity. Therefore, evaluating residents' feedback on IEQ is an important step in gauging building performance and conditions. In addition, the health and productivity of residents needs to be evaluated in order to identify the effect of IEQ on them. A questionnaire survey was used to achieve the study objectives and to gain access to the respondents' views and feedback. The pilot questionnaire study was conducted at two housing apartments in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the data collected were evaluated and analyzed using SPSS software. The outcome of this pilot study is significant, as it shows the residents' dissatisfaction level towards IEQ factors such as noise, glare and privacy, and other aspects of IEQ that are important, such as ventilation. Additionally, it has been found that the IEQ of the residents does affect their health and productivity. It is anticipated that the outcome of this study will serve as an indicator of building performance improvements needed to achieve a better indoor environment quality for affordable housing in Malaysia.
The ISO 9000 Quality Management System is widely implemented in various sectors in Malaysia, including in the higher education sector. The main objective of implementing ISO 9000 in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is to improve the quality related to administrative as well as academic matters. Implementation of ISO 9000 emphasizes on key clauses namely quality management system, risk management, resource management, product realization, analysis and continuous improvement. All these clauses emphasize on technical aspects. Therefore, the value aspect should also be emphasized that the practice of ISO 9000 can be implemented in a balanced way. The objective of this article is to examine Islamic values in the implementation of ISO 9000 in Malaysian HEI. This qualitative study uses a public HEI located in the Klang Valley as a case study. Semi-structural interview is used as a data collection method. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis method. The research findings show that there are five Islamic values practiced in the implementation of ISO 9000 namely Shura, Itqan, discipline, responsibility and Istiqamah. All of these Islamic values help in implementing ISO 9000 effectively in Malaysian HEI.
