PurposeThis study investigates consumer purchases of energy-efficient appliances (EEAs). The adoption of EEA would reduce the detrimental impact of the environment from the consumer behavioral perspective.Design/methodology/approachThis study evaluates consumer purchase of EEA based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), environmental factors, and consumer energy-efficient behavior (EEB). Applying partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), 412 household respondents within the five regions in Malaysia were analyzed.FindingsFindings depicted that EEB has a significant influence on intention to purchase and subsequently purchasing behavior of EEA. Similarly, the TPB variables were significant predictors of EEB and intention to purchase except for attitude. Meanwhile, among the environmental factors, only environmental awareness was significant.Research limitations/implicationsImplications include integrating educational programs through formal and informal measures. The former includes infusing within the mainstream educational system. On the other hand, the latter is through effective and captivating media communication.Originality/valueThe integration of EEB towards consumers' intention and behavior of purchasing EEAs.
Cyber and information security (CIS) is an issue of national and international interest. Despite sophisticated security systems and extensive physical countermeasures to combat cyber-attacks, organisations are vulnerable due to the involvement of the human factor. Humans are regarded as the weakest link in cybersecurity systems as development in digital technology advances. The area of cybersecurity is an extension of the previously studied fields of information and internet security. The need to understand the underlying human behavioural factors associated with CIS policy warrants further study, mainly from theoretical perspectives. Based on these underlying theoretical perspectives, this study reviews literature focusing on CIS compliance and violations by personnel within organisations. Sixty studies from the years 2008 to 2020 were reviewed. Findings suggest that several prominent theories were used extensively and integrated with another specific theory. Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), and General Deterrence Theory (GDT) were identified as among the most referred-to theories in this area. The use of current theories is discussed based on their emerging importance and their suitability in future CIS studies. This review lays the foundation for future researchers by determining gaps and areas within the CIS context and encompassing employee compliance and violations within an organisation.
This study was conducted to indicate the level of understanding in rationalizing the identified limitations of passive students through contextual teaching in T&L session from the perspectives among the primary school teachers at one private primary school in Johor. It acquire both knowledge and experience of teachers in identifying the limitations of their passive students, and the data was collected through their perception. These perception of teachers in identifying the limitations of passive students gathered through interviewed, then the understanding on how the process in rationalizing them with the contextual teaching approach collected by survey. This research is using mix-method strategies by using questionnaire and interview. These instruments was adapted from Sharifah (2009) and Zanariah (2002). Mix method strategies (questionnaire and interview) was used as method. In rationalizing the identified limitation through contextual teaching in T&L session, researcher measured the perceived perception from teachers in three dimensions, which are 1. Instrumental, 2. Relational and 3. Logical. The level of understanding in implementation the contextual teaching in order to overcome the limitations of passive students was moderate (3.62). Addiction toward social media has become a new norm, especially among young adolescent. Social media users in Malaysia accounted to nearly 20 million, more than half of the population. Some individual having more than one account in different social media platform. With the increasing prevalent of social media addiction among young adolescent, this study ought to identify what are the critical factors that can influence one addiction toward social media. Based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and flow-happiness theory, this study would like to unfold this issue and connect the possible factors that play critical role in user’s social media addiction based on its detrimental impact. Using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), this study applies the quantitative study by testing the antecedents of social media addition. 217 respondents who are mainly university students responded to the survey. It was found that the most critical factor is perceived ease of use on perceived usefulness and subsequently attitude. The second most critical path is user’s enjoyment toward satisfaction. Surprisingly, perceived usefulness towards habit and attitude toward social media addiction itself was not significant. This study would help practitioners to implement mitigating strategy to reduce social media addiction young adolescent, especially those who studying in school and higher education institution.
