Water resources are among the most important natural riches of the countries, so this resource must be used correctly and sustainable, especially in the agriculture sector. The Southeastern District of Turkey, has abundant water resources but is known as a region where the problems arising from the excessive use of water. In this study, 5 irrigation schemes (Akçakale, Şanlıurfa, Yaylak Plain, Upper Harran, Bozova) in the Southeastern District of Turkey were chosen as a material to investigate the performance. It is aimed to assess the irrigation schemes in the district with performance indicators used widely by researchers. As an assessment method, ANOVA was used to determine differences of performance indicators among irrigation schemes, multiple regression and correlation were used to explain statistical relation among performance indicators. As a result, irrigation water supplied to users per unit irrigated area (Wirrigated) can be explained with irrigation ratio (Iratio), irrigation water supplied to users per unit command area (Wcommand), relative water supply (Rws) and output per unit irrigation water supplied to users (Owater) (R 2 = 0.98). In the region, the average Rws was found 2.38 although irrigation methods used by farmers were generally sprinkler. The study also concluded that serious operation, maintenance and management problems exist in the irrigation schemes of the district.
Background Dental students are frequently affected by work-related musculoskeletal symptoms (WMSs) due to reasons such as working conditions, difficult education process and long work periods. The aim of the study was to investigate the frequency and anatomical distribution of WMSs, and its effect on the quality of life (QoL) in dental students. Methods Sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of one-hundred and five dental students were recorded. WMSs were scored by the participants with the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Then, participants were asked to evaluate their QoL by scoring the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Form. Differences between independent groups for continuous variables were evaluated by Student’s t-test and ANOVA as appropriate. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of demographic and health-related parameters in predicting the QoL subscales. Results The most common painful region in the last 12 months was the neck (66.7%). The body region with the most WMSs in the last 7 days was the upper back (43.8%). Physical health-related QoL of those with diagnosed musculoskeletal symptoms, and general health-related QoL of those using medicine due to any musculoskeletal symptoms were found to be statistically significantly lower (p = 0.018, p = 0.041, respectively). It was observed that the general and physical health, psychological well-being, and social relationship of the participants who reported the presence of neck pain in the last 7 days were statistically significantly lower (p = 0.003, p < 0.001, p = 0.004, p = 0.012; respectively). According to multiple regression analyses, pain occurrence in the body in the last 12 months and/or in the last 7 days had a negative impact on the participants’ general and physical health, psychological well-being, social relationship, and environmental status and related QoL (p = 0.026, p = 0.047, p = 0.021, p = 0.001, p = 0.027, respectively). Conclusions The results of this study show that dental students’ body regions, especially the neck and the back, are affected by WMSs. These negative changes observed in the body had a negative effect on the QoL of the dental students.
Rainwater collection systems are alternative water supply methods providing environmental and economic benefits compared to traditional water supply methods used in arid and semi-arid climates with water shortages. Rainwater harvested in greenhouse roof by rain gutters can be used to irrigate and grow the plants cultivated in greenhouses. However, rain gutters and storage tanks in greenhouses should be of sufficient size to collect rainwater. Water consumption of plants in the greenhouse should be calculated correctly to determine the storage size in greenhouses. The amount of annual irrigation water harvested from rainfall in Kirsehir province where total rainfall is 388.3 l/m2 was determined as 349.57 l/m2 based on rainfall factor of 0.9. Total amount of irrigation water needed by the plants in the unheated greenhouse between April and September for single crop cultivation was 568.33 l/m2. The results revealed that 61.49% of irrigation water needed for plants can be met by rainwater harvesting. In addition, 47.74% of the total water demand of plants in the heated greenhouse where crops are grown throughout a year can be met by rainwater harvesting. The storage capacities needed for unheated and heated greenhouses were determined as 0.21 m3/m2 and 0.30 m3/m2 depending on the amount of rainwater harvested. The results showed that rainwater harvesting may contribute to the improvement of agricultural activities in water-scarce regions.

Artan dünya nüfusu karşısında doğal kaynakların daha verimli kullanımı önemli hale gelmiştir. Artan gıda ihtiyacının karşılanması için kaynakların yönetimi açısından yeni anlayış ve yöntemlere ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Su, gıda üretimi için ilk sırada gelen kaynaktır. Tarımsal alanda kullanılan suyun yönetimi son derece önemlidir. Sulama şebekelerinin izlenmesi ve değerlendirilmesi açısından geliştirilen performans göstergeleri değerlendirme ve yorum açısından önemli kolaylıklar sağlamaktadır. Yapılan bu çalışmada Akdeniz bölgesinden seçilen Kahramanmaraş, Göksun, Andırın, Keysun ve Hancağız sulama şebekeleri, 11 yıllık (2006-2016) veri kullanılarak çok değişkenli istatistiksel yöntemlerle değerlendirilmiştir. Temel bileşenler analizi yapılmış, analiz sonucunda elde edilen bileşen yükleri ile kalite indeksi hesaplanarak çıkan sonuçlara göre başarı sıralaması yapılmıştır. Kalite indeksine göre yapılan sıralama da Kahramanmaraş sulama şebekesi (311.96) ilk sırada yer alırken Hancağız sulama şebekesi (-1061.53) son sırada yer almıştır. Sonuç olarak sulama şebekelerinin başarı sıralamasına en fazla finansal ve su dağıtım performans göstergeleri etkili olmuştur.
