As atividades produtivas são recorrentes causadoras de externalidades, e a literatura é controversa quanto ao real impacto que tais atividades geram ao meio ambiente, ora informando sobre externalidades negativas, ora noticiando acerca de externalidades positivas. O presente estudo analisa o impacto do desenvolvimento econômico nas emissões de dióxido de carbono (CO2) no Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), compreendendo o período entre 2002 e 2016. Para a realização das análises, cinco setores foram investigados: agropecuária, energia, mudança e uso da terra, processos industriais e resíduos, todos relacionados com PIB (Produto Interno Bruto) per Capita de formato linear e quadrático, conforme teoria de Kuznets, como fontes de desenvolvimento econômico. A pesquisa foi exploratória, inédita e baseada em modelos econométricos. Os resultados empíricos indicam que, ao longo do período avaliado, os impactos do desenvolvimento econômico foram negativos nas emissões de dióxido de carbono totais para o Mato Grosso do Sul. O modelo econométrico de resíduos apresentou a melhor significância, sendo controverso quanto aos resultados em países desenvolvidos; para os demais modelos, os setores apresentaram o formato de “U”; e o setor de mudança e uso da terra apresentou a teoria da curva ambiental de Kuznets (“U” invertido). Quando comparado aos estados brasileiros industrializados, o Mato Grosso do Sul se mostra incipiente em seu desempenho econômico, porém, ao analisar a trajetória da sustentabilidade ambiental, medida pelas emissões de CO2, o MS apresenta melhores números empiricamente constatados.
O desequilíbrio da relação entre o ser humano e o ambiente tem gerado discussões mundiais sobre o futuro do planeta, dando origem, a partir da década de 1970, a diversos fóruns globais de discussão. Sob a coordenação da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), as discussões sobre o tema foram avançando e, baseadas nos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento do Milênio (ODM), deram origem aos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS). Em uma conjuntura com vistas à década de 2030, a presente pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar se o contexto brasileiro, notadamente com relação à atividade legislativa do País, está alinhado aos discursos contemporâneos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (DS), partindo do mapeamento do conceito de DS no mundo e no Brasil, com utilização, também, do método de análise Text Mining (TM). Este trabalho tem caráter exploratório e busca responder se o Brasil está alinhado ao desenvolvimento sustentável, tal como o DS é defendido nos fóruns de discussão mundial, por meio da análise do arcabouço legal brasileiro. Os resultados apresentaram evidências de que, legalmente, o Brasil incorporou os avanços obtidos na discussão sobre o tema ao longo dos diferentes momentos históricos. Isso pode ser notado a partir da análise do arcabouço legal brasileiro, inclusive integrando a Carta Magna como marco decisivo, caracterizando a legislação do País sobre o assunto como uma das mais completas do mundo.
Os meios de pagamento virtuais estruturados em Blockchain têm surgido como uma opção disruptiva às formas convencionais, inclusive transcendendo suas limitações. O presente artigo investigou a possibilidade de que as Moedas Virtuais venham a suplantar a representatividade do Dólar Americano como meio de pagamento e de reservas cambiais preponderante na nova economia global. O método de análise empregado foi a pesquisa descritiva, partindo de uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema. Ao final do estudo, concluiu-se que as Moedas Virtuais, em seu atual estágio de desenvolvimento, provavelmente não teriam condições de substituir o Dólar Americano como equivalente geral e lastro para reservas globais.
